    Hi all,

Through some things I did with my mom's Platinum Select account, I've found that Citibank will allow you to transfer a BT offer from an AT&T Universal pre-approval to a current Citibank card ineligible for balance transfers.

My mom has two Plat Select accounts with Citi, neither qualifying for retention or any balance transfer offers. Using retention (calling directly), I got her a best offer of 4.9% for BT for 9 months one one of her cards. However, I left the other card untouched, because I wanted her to have the 0% offer for 9-12 months that they are giving new account holders, and I needed an "ineligible" card for negotiations. Retention had earlier told me that the only way a *current* and otherwise ineligible account could get a BT offer of 0% was if the card holder got a pre-approval for another Citi card with a BT offer. So, in the mail comes mom's "invitation" for an AT&T Universal Card with a 0% BT offer for 12 months with no fee. :)

I called retention straight away, tell them about the 0% BT offer from a "Citibank, N.A." card (the back of the offer reads issued by "Citibank, N.A." - so I didn't mention that this was a Universal card), and faxed in front and back copies of the offer. The same day, I wrote Citi via PFB (see letter below). Three days later, retention calls back saying that the offer has been transferred with all the terms on the AT&T invitation! And the offer is available via her online account. My mom is thrilled. I am surprised that it worked. I didn't really know if they'd honor the AT&T Universal "invitation" as a real Citi pre-approval, but they did. I threw away my AT&T offer, and missed out on an extra three months of 0% and no fee.

Even though Citibank cannot combine AT&T Universal accounts with Citi accounts yet, this is a very nice opportunity for those older card holders who can't get the 0% BT offers - but are getting the seemingly universal (no pun intended) AT&T Universal invitations with 0% BT offers.

So, look out for and keep those offers!

    Dear Mr. Weill,

I hope you are able to help me with a problem I've encountered with Citibank N.A. The problem concerns the lack of a 0% apr balance transfer offer on my
Platinum Select MasterCard at your bank. The account number for my card is
XXXXXX. The security number on the account is XXX and my mother's
    maiden name is "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX".

I am disappointed with Citibank because I cannot get a 0% balance transfer apr
on my card, even though the account is in excellent standing - and even though
brand new customers get this offer when opening new accounts. I don't think it
is fair to give new customers such a 0% apr balance transfer offer, but not
extend the same offer to longstanding customers, such as myself, with excellent
account histories. I'm sure established customers want to save money just like
the brand new customers. Why are we left out?

On March ________, 2002 I had a conversation with ___ CSR (associate # XXXXXXXX) in the
Retention Department, who explained that I could not get this offer on my
current card unless I had a pre-approval from Citibank for a 0% balance
transfer offer on another card. So, I faxed to him a copy of my pre-approval
for a 0% apr balance transfer offer good through March 1, 2003 on a card from
Citibank, N.A. I will fax that to you, too, if you want to review it.

I asked him - and I am asking you - to please transfer that offer to my current
Platinum Select account, account # XXXXXXXXXXX. I would like to
transfer balances to this card and have them at 0%apr until March 2003.

It really would mean a great deal to me and make me want to use this card more,
if you made sure that this was done for my account.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter. I look forward to your prompt
    reply.

They can't combine them, but they can split the limit of an existing Plat. Select with a new At&t Universal card.
