Anyone ever seen this before? I switched long distance carriers and AT & T pulled my credit report when they switched me. It's a soft, but I don't think I authorized that. Did I? Don't they have to tell me first before they do that?

    VERIZON DID THAT TO ME!!!!

I will DISPUTE it as a FRADULANT INQUIRY...DID NOT APPLY FOR A CREDIT CARD OR LOAN...(only long distance service)

That's why I won't change LD carriers. Thank goodness I have been with Alltel so long they added the LD feature to my account without pulling credit. So, they get my business!!

When I switched to the new AT&T Unlimited program last month, they did that to me also -- except it was a hard inquiry in my case! I was very ticked off about that.

By the way, George, you're wrong (unfortunately). If you dispute it as fraudulent on the basis that you had only applied for long distance service and not a loan or credit card, your dispute will be denied. Applications for telephone service do fall under the "permissable purpose" purview. The business relationship doesn't have to involve an application for credit or employment. (Review the FCRA regarding "permissable purpose.") I wish you were right, though, because I'm not very happy about the hard inquiry AT&T pulled. :(

I got an AR when I just switched to at&t 2 weeks ago. They could have pulled a million for all I cared, anything to get me away from MCI, UGH!!!

Yeah, that's sort of how I felt about Sprint. I started out at 10 cents/min and somewhere along the way, they raised me to 35 c thru the week. Since I don't call much from home, I didn't even notice until they sent me a notice saying that my Saturday rate was going to 35 cents per minute too. I jumped ship immediately.

Does MCI really suck that badly? I'm in the process of switching to them now for both local and long distance (their "Neighborhood" program). What attracted me was 1) the $59.99/mo. flat rate for unlimited local & long distance; and 2) the option not to share credit info during the application process, which requires a $49.99 deposit (returned in 6 months).

    I hope I didn't make a mistake...

They were horrible. I paid $49.99 a month for 1000 minutes then 5 cents a minute after that. I would make a call at say 10:00 get billed for 10 minutes then my next at 10:05, so I was getting billed twice. This happened EVERY MONTH and they only credited me the first month. Their CS is rude, they don't respond to PFB's or snail mail complaints.

When I switched to Sprint (sorry I thought it was At&T) they didn't ask for a SSN#, but they DID pull an AR on equifax. I use A LOT of LD and need a good deal. My ins. company is affiliated with them and I will save 10% off every bill at 5 cents a minute.

Go to PFB and look at all the nice things said about MCI, kinda reminds me of Providian.

My experience with MCI was bad too. I had MCI for about three months several years ago. My bills were always way higher than normal, and when there was a serious billing problem, they were really terrible to deal with. They basically told me it was my problem. I had to get the local phone company rep to do a conference call with me and MCI to try to straighten it all out. When their telemarketers call me now, I just tell them in no uncertain terms that I don't do business with MCI, no matter how good the offer.

Crap. Oh well, I guess I'll have their customer service number on speed-dial for the time being...

    Thanks for the feedback,

    LEAVE MCI ALONE!

NO NOT CONDUCT ANY BUSINESS WITH MCI WORLDCOM PERIOD!
Don't ask why (I don't feel like typing a 10 page post). Just please take my word for it and if you don't believe me, do some research on the internet.

Very soon now, at least in my area, if you have cable dsl they will offer flat rate $18 a month long distance. UNLIMITED USAGE.

Might check it out in your area too.
