I live in Virginia, 4 years ago I was seperated from my husband and incurred a 400 gas bill, when I got stuck by roommates, thought I paid 160 on it, my part, but can't find the records, anyway, now back with my husband, who bought a house last year and has had gas with this same co for over a year, his last bill was 14 dollars, paid that then comes a terminiation notice to pay 400 in 1 week or get shut off, when I called the company, they said since he was my spouse they added my bill to his, is this legal, ? I don't have 400 to pull out in 1 weeks notice, have contacted commissioner of utilities they are looking into it, but said may be legal? can any one help?
I had to call about another problem and said I was mrs , I have tried to find my records from 98 but i have moved and they are just not here, the commissioner did put a hold on the disconnect untill further investigation
Can you contact the bank that you drew the check on? If you paid by check that is. I know it's a long time ago but they may still have the records and even if they charge you to send them, it won't be $160.
