I used to visit these forums years ago. As a result of what I learned here, my score went from the dumps to a present of 790 plus. I have about 60k of revolving credit, with less than 5% usage. My bf has credit problems. A few current charge off's which should drop off in a year or so. No current bads other than the charge offs, but nothing good either. Want to add him as an AU. I know this used to work, but not sure if it does anymore? A search on the forum brought up mostly old threads on the subject. A few Q's? Would it be beneficial to him anymore to add him as an AU on a few of my accounts? What would my exposure be? While there is a good bit of trust, we all know these things "go bad" from time to time, and I worked to hard to repair my credit to have it go south over a soured love. Simply adding him as an AU to gain the credit line only (he'd not have a card), would he have access to account information, be able to order a card, etc.? Make internet charges? Is this still a way to rebuild credit to some degree, or is it no longer a viable option? Any tips on how to get it done and make my good credit lines show up on his report and benefit him without unduly exposing myself to potential credit harm?
Congrats on rebuilding such a great score! As long as your credit issuers report AUs, which most still do, you should be able to help him out by adding him as an AU on several of your accounts. He wouldn't be able to access them online or make any changes as an AU, and you should be protected if you don't provide him with access to a card. It seems as though people in this forum and others have had mixed success lately, so please come back and let us know how it plays out. Good luck!
