Does anyone have a line on where I can go to get my car "street legal"? I do not want an inquiry if I can help it.

call around and ask if they do credit checks and if the company pulls hard or soft inquiries.

Sorry for the slang. "Street legal" means that a person would have the minimum legal liability requirements to drive the car on the road but not the other optional coverages.

I just bought a used car and have not decided whether I want more than liability.

I hope you aren't driving it without any insurance.
To do so is taking a tremendous risk and could ruin you financially for life if something goes wrong.
    I will not take a car out on the road uninsured it just isn't worth the risk ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <> ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <>
Never read the fine print. There ain't no way you're going to like it.

I'm not driving it yet. That's why I'm looking to get insurance. It is a used vintage car and I'm not certain if I want to replace it if someone hits me. That is why I'm only willing to get liability at this point.

I also still have insurance from my last car tho' I don't know if it would cover me with my new 'used" car.

Most will cover you for a subsequent purchase of a car for 30 days.. but you might call your insurance agent. If you already HAVE insurance, are you unhappy with them or something? You should just be able to add it as they already have a history with you.. Might want to check =)

    Good luck

You should be able to call your current insurance company and add it. (That's all I had to do when I traded my car in and I had coverage before I drove off the lot.) I don't know if they will do an inquiry or not. (Mine didn't, but they didn't pull one when I applied either.)

    Shorty

I am on my parents' insurance policy. They live in Sacramento. At the time I was added onto their policy it made sense because I worked in Sacramento and San Francisco. But, now I only work in San Francisco and only have use of my car instead of theirs as well.

I'm not unhappy with the insurance I have now but I'm afraid they might require that they run a credit check, if I'm the sole insured. As I'm swimming in inquiries right now, I'm trying to avoid that approach if possible.

ASK IN ADVANCE "IF" THEY PULL

YOU PAY IN ADVANCE...NO CREDIT IS INVOLVED!!!

    POOR CREDIT DOES NOT CAUSE...

    ACCIDENTS
    TICKETS
    or
    CLAIMS

But it does cause price gouging.

Also, if you ask whether an Ins. company pulls a credit report they may say that it does not for purposes of deciding whether it is going to insure you. However, an insurance guru told me that some companies DO pull if you are going to make monthly payments. So, as GEORGE says, definitely ask in advance.
