I really need a car, and QUICK. It doesn't have to be brand new, but I need somthing that will last a 60 mile trip every day, and can cart around my kids.

Problem is, I have awful credit. Score in low 500's. I have started credit repair, but not near finished yet!

Does anyone know where I might be able to get financed? I would buy something with cash, but don't have enough to buy something that would be reliable. I really appreciate any help here. I am truly desperate.

I have seen ads in California for:

1800 BAR NONE - I believe they finance anyone with a down payment but the rates will be high.

what price range are you looking in? You mite have to put down 30% of the car price. i got a 20,000 car a year ago. I had to give them 5,000 reaons to give me a loan. lol.

    Maureen,
I financed with Ford for a brand new car with scores just like yours, I did a lease and got 10% financing, I did have to put down almost $3000. This was in 2000. Today, I have 2 new Fords, one at 2.9% financing and one at 7% financing. If you can get in good with them, you have it made. I was messing around down at the local dealership the other day, seeing what a Lincoln Navigator would cost me, I was offered 1.9% financing on it. I didn't want to put myself in a bind with those payments, so didn't take it. Good luck.

Don't fret too much, there are people on this board that claim to have recieved 0% financing with those scores.

You might consider Eloan to see what kind of rates you might get.

Well, someone from Dunphy automotive called and asked me to come in...let's hope that's a good sign. I have about $1500 to put down right now...

I am SO stressed out about this, it's not funny. I can't wait until this time next year when my student loans are rehabbed...

Do not try E-loan until you have high 500's I was turned down with 549 and putting $3000 down on a $10,000 vehicle... Good luck!

I don't believe it! I have TWO count 'em TWO places telling me I am approved! I have to go there tomorrow with my info!!! I am in SHOCK! Is this all a dream? Will I actually be driving a reliable car soon?

Oh, how I long for the day when I don't have to make sure my life insurance is up-to-date before I get in the car!!

Now we see what the interest will be!!!!

A quick message for anyone here in the same situation.

Think long and hard, and do a thorough investigation before your finance person tries to offer financing thru AmeriCredit Financial. I've seen stories of 20-25% interest, horrible (near fraudulent) billing and payment practices, customer service that doesn't even reach the dismal level, repossession practices that border on thuggery, and a general disregard for their customers.

I don't work for a competitor or Any financial institution, and this is simply a synopsis of comments I've encountered in my travels. (Ergo, please don't infer slander or libel from my comments.)

I agree. They are not a reputable company. There is another company that does high risk car loans that has a great reputation, at least in my experience, but very high interest and a big down payment. The company is DRIVE FINANCIAL. You will need to find a dealer that is affiliated with them.

I see Americredit every week at the auto auctions. They repo a lot of cars.
WFS Financial repo's 40,000 cars a year. They are also a big subprime lender in the west.
