My boyfriend bought a used car in July of 96. In Aug. 96 the transmission broke. He called the dealer and told them the car was broken and to come pick it up. Here's the problem - his equifax report shows account listed twice and they have verified, Experioan shows account twice one as open/past due 180 days and one as repossession, tu shows as charged off to bad debt 12/96. They all show different amounts. I have sent two validation letters, and estoppel with no reponse. So I faxed an intent to sue letter. They faxed me a copy of the original contract stating this was his payoff amount. Any ideas on what to do now? I want this off his report asap!!!

This is what I see wrong and could be used as a basis for your disputes?

    1. How can the amounts be different on the same account? One company, one account, one balance

    2. Experian: duplicates

    3. Equifax: duplicates

Did you really intend to sue?

Does Equifax report it as charge off or a repossession?

Is Equifax the only CRA that you have disputed this with?

I have disputed it as duplicate. It always comes back verified. Equifax reports on as repo, other as charged off to bad debt. I know that the SOL has expired on this debt, I just need to get it off his report so we can buy a house.
