I sent a letter to to Avco asking them to delete a trade line. Today I received a letter from citifinancial. This is what it reads:

We received your letter dated 4/12/04 regarding your credit report. However we have been through 2 mergers and are no longer Avco Financial. Unfortunately, we no longer have access to the old files.

I have forwarded your letter to our customer service department in Baltimore. You can reach them directly at.... if you have any further question.

What do I do next? It came back as verified with the CRA...but how.....

    What is my next step.

if they no longer have access to their old files then they need to delete the acct as they can not verify the information that they are currently reporting .

the merger is not your problem its theirs,

if your letter was forwarded to their other office call them and write to them again CMRRR and request that they delete their old TL from your CR

since you already disputed the TL with the CRA you could sue the furnisher for continuing to report innacurate unverifable information under the FCRA.

    Thank you for replying

Your saying I should have phone contact? Should I send the letter to the same address as before? Should I call and get the new address. Which one of the sample letters should I use?

Well, you could just phone the new contact number for the correct address. At some point soon, I'd decide they are jacking you around, though.

Meanwhile, you should continue disputing with the CRA.

I had the same thing happen, three accounts that were merged to the citifinancial name. I had to ITS but as soon as it got to a place called "Citifinancial Network Branch" no address listed on their letterhead, it was taken care of and all three were deleted. The very nice lady actually called me at home before sending out the deletion letter. Her name is Mary King 800-922-6235. Hope this helps
