Actually, the returned check fees are going to be something we have to take up with Merchant Services, since they actually made the debit that screwed everything up. And the bad news is...the branch manager, who *did* re-open the account, also said, however, that Merchant Services can debit any account they want with Mom's name on it and there's nothing she can do about it. He re-opened the account anyway, though, because she'd been a customer since 1979. What she's going to do is let the account sit long enough to make sure this is all blown over, i.e. there's no report to Chex or Telecheck, and then she is going to close it and open one somewhere else. That way she can avoid the problem of having the business and personal accounts at the same bank, and this kind of thing cannot happen again. Not too smooth a move for B of A, though, since they are going to lose a 23-year customer.
ok Nightowl, nodding, good news is still success! It's not right though, putting my hands on my hips, that was part of her agreement they could withdraw the funds from any available account? I thought it was to a pre-determined amount in installment payments from a specific account? or is that just how it works when it's good for Merchants? I'm happy for you and mom still, could have been a lot worse without the accountl, and glad you're both thinking of a preventative out so it can't happen again. Keep on keepin' on... Sassy
Just make sure the acct is paid up with a zero balance and no outstanding EFTs or checks. Chexsystems will get you if you dont.
