I used to think they had great customer service. That was one of the reasons I was going to keep my account for a long time.

But who wants a credit card company that does not have 24 hour customer support?

I have know about other card companies that have NO toll free #'s and limited hours, BUT they are NOT top 10 companies...

Well, I guess I'll put that card in the sock drawer. It has an 11.99% Variable rate on it anyways. That's too darn high. Would you think they would be willing to lower it if you don't use the card for a while and they realize there is inactivity on the account? I know they don't automatically grant credit line increases; you have to ask for them.

    George,

I liked BofA because they have good customer services, good rate, generous credit line. I'm sorry to hear they cut customer service hours. I got 9.9% fixed APR for purchases for both Visa and MC.

I'm NOT DUMPING them just because they are cutting their hours...
I have on-line access to my statement.
    I can pay on-line.
I have a BT web site.

    What more could I want?

Who's really called them after 10 pm or midnight? It just waste of money.

B of A got hit hard on 9/11 guys. They also may have been hurt by Enron mess. Many banks had invested in Enron.

A popular thing to do late-night in Dallas (besides illegal drag racing) is to go to the midnight movies at AMC Grand 24 or Odessy 30. The last movie starts at 1:30AM so when people get out at 3-4AM and are still wired, they go shopping at Wal-Mart!! You can see all manner of people: club kids getting out, post-movie goers etc eating at Miami Subs, Whataburger or Taco Cabana and then heading off to shop at Wal-Mart. And I'm not talking little stuff either. One store used to close it's electronics section at 10pm due to worries about theft. They had to open it again when they saw that people really do buy TVs and VCRs at 3am!

The only time I really needed to call a credit card bank at 4am was due to theft. But even then Visa and MC have 24-hour worldwide response for that. I didn't talk to my actual bank but rather the Master Assist security people.

PS I talked to someone at BofA about cutting hours and she said she hadn't heard anything about it.

    THE OLD Bank of America....

was headquartered in San Francisco, and they were a GREAT bank. They made millions off Californians but did business respectfully - and without so many
    stupid restrictions.

    Since they went to North Carolina, and essentially dumped all existing California employees, Californians have switched accounts in huge numbers;

Wells Fargo and Washington Mutual took the largest
    amounts of customers.

I can't believe that these billion dollar corporations
save the cost of 3-5 Reps for nighttime coverage, at the expense of losing customers - or worse yet - getting bad press over the internet!

My favorite is what Monogram and Amex (yes, Amex!) are doing ...

    Off-shore call centers!

It's only happened once with Amex (3am), but the last few calls to Monogram have been answered in India. Nice, knowledgeable people, but there's a horrid echo on the line and a definite accent- I got the last rep. to fess up that she was in face in New Delhi.

Given some of the MORONS I've deal with from Providian and Nextcard, I'll take a considerate, well educated, well spoken Indian woman any day!
