I need your help and advice on a Security backround chech the Government is conducting. How much do you figure the government is going to base its decision based on the Credit report. I have tons of charge off a house reposession but no bancruptcies....figure I am SOL or do I have a chance...I need a little positive input here I am so so depressed again...because of credit problems
Doesn't sound (from the name of the job) like it INVOLVES CREDIT...you should be OK...but I really am NOT an expert in employment...
from what I understand any federal job that requires a generic investigation will include a credit check.. I howevere don't have any idea what they are looking for as far as credit scores/content
You'll probably be okay, I had a background check done for my job before I started cleaning up my reports. From what I understand, it's primarily to verify your identity and maybe to verify previous addresses. The only bad thing was that a hard inquiry was pulled on all three of my CR's.
I HOPE YOU DISPUTED ALL 3 "HARDS"!!! They can be "SOFT"... ...or they better give you a CREDIT CARD!!!
The credit check is one element that is looked at during a background investigation. The total person is looked at: other employment, references, number of years employed, circumstances that caused the credit problems. There are many people who get security clearances that have credit problems including bankruptcies. As long as you can explain your circumstances it should work out fine. I work in the security field and I submit paperwork for background investigations as one element of my job. Good luck to you.
Probably not that much. In 87 I moved to Germany (where I stayed for 7 years). I had to have very extensive (took 6 months) background checks from the Gov't because I was a Financial Advisor, working exclusively with the Military. I had to have FBI and CIA clearance. I had credit issues back then. But passed the BG Check. They probably are looking at potential CRIMINAL stuff. Good luck.
It all depends on what you're applying for. I had to go for a VERY high level of security, that's why it took so long I think. But under normal circumstances it ought not take that long. 2-3 weeks maybe. But what kind of job are you looking for with them?
Well the job is for a Supervisor Position working in the Airport Screening Passengers and Luggage. The background information sheet states "At A minimum TSA will ensure that your credit history is sastifactory and that you do not have a crimional history." This is by no means what I aspired toi do in life but the Federal Benifit package is good and well...I have worked under the hot sun long enough.. I am concerned because the last time I checked my CR I had 12 Charge offs and one Home Foreclosure....I have no bankruptcies and no criminal history but still I am very concerned. Unfortunately with this quick hiring process I don't think "I'll get my day in court." In other words I don't think they will want an explination rather they will just blacklist me and movew on to the next candidate.
What Butch said. It depends on the nature of your job (a position of public trust) and the scope (sensitive critical, nonsensitive etc) of what you'll be doing/have access to. The background investigations for a USDA beef inspector, a Vetran's Hospital clerk, a DEA agent and a satellite engineer with Lockheed Martin are all different in scope. They will all check criminal, employment, credit histories etc. However, as mentioned earlier, they look at the whole person. For one position, bad credit that is explainable (layoff, medical etc) is fine but not for another. What they would really not like to see is *habitual* adverse information: used drugs when you were 16? yeah okay, no biggie--used them when you were 26? hmmm problem, 36? oh no! big problem!! I have seen coworkers go through a nasty divorce, complete with trashed credit and still come out okay at their 3 year reinvestigation. Of course their ex-PIA weren't much help during the field interviews! :-D
My question is what do you plan on doing with all of those charge-offs. Are you waiting for them fall off or do you plan on disputing?
I know a guy that got out of prison for drugs and was hired as a screener at the airport in Boston....this was pre 911 though.
Great question. I am applying for jobs and a backgroung check is necessary. Its avation related and they want the 10 year check. I as going to apply at a job I didn't want and see what the results were. Then if I was o.k. I would then apply for the job I want. I'll keep you updated.
