I have been working on the accuracy of my credit reports with all three CRA's over the last 12-14 months. I have used the online investigations for both Experian and Trans Union, and I have requested investigations by phone from Equifax. When TU and Experain "verified" some information that was obviously incorrect, I wrote them a letter and asked that they check again. The incorrect information (especially lots of incorrect entries in TU)was related to having items shown with a balance of xxx or shown as a chap 7 or 11 rather than a chap 13 or having an account shown as written off instead of as included in the Ch13. All 3 did eventlually correct these entries.

One of the CRA's, I believe it was Tran Union, sent back a letter saying that they were reinvestigating, but they also sent me a separate couple of letters telling me basically 1) it was not in my best interest to use a credit repair organization, that it was a rip off and that my scores would not change and 2) asking me to fill out a sheet telling them which one I had used, how much they charged, and basically saying that I had been ripped off by xxx agency.

I did not fill out the form, since of course I had not used anything but my computer, letters written in WORD, and my own CR's ((( repeated pulling of my reports through the paid monitoring programs of Equifax and Experian...TU I had to pay for the four reports that I have pulled over the last year. )))

Nor did I respond to them. And everything that I asked them to reinvestigate, they finally have, and have corrected based on the additional letter and documentation that I provided to them.

Bottom line, does it mean anything in the world of scoring if they think you're not doing this legwork yourself? they have never labelled my request s as frivolous, or done anything other than including all that junk that one time...

Don't respond to them. It is your right under federal law to dispute and have them correct any mistakes on your CR.

I was sent those when I hired Junum last summer. Never filled it out and never did received any more of those letters.

    Best regards,

TU does that for MANY people...we have determined that they do it RANDOMLY, it really has nothing to do with you or your situation...they send that out to ever 3 or 4 people CLAIMING that they are helping things, hoping you will turn in fradulent credit repair organizations, but they are just fishing...you did the right thing .. ignore the letter.

It has no effect on your report or your score.

    Possible scenario

Do the CRO's tell their clients NOT to respond to these CRA inquiries?

I've got a bad feeling that someone will interpret that TU letter as a legitimate request and return a completed form.

    Imagine that...

I wonder what would happen? I can only speculate that future disputes won't have as much "punch" as they used to (saying it lightly)...

    Re: Possible scenario

There is actually a letter somewhere on this board that gives a scathing response to this type of request from a CRA.

    Thanks

They don't want correct records on file.
