Very bad advice. It will not post as a purchase. It will post as either a cash advance or a balance transfer. Which means: 1. You're not getting ANY points / miles. 2. No grace period. Interest is accrued from the day they cut the check until you pay off. 3. Since this isn't a purchase, many card issuers would also assess a transaction fee for the BT / cash advance. Saar

Paying officialpayments.com will count as a purchase, but involves the above mentioned 2.5% processing fee. My original post was aimed at warning people that sending a credit card check directly to the IRS, as suggested in the article, will only get you interest and fees, not miles. Saar
