ON a 3rd party pull my CR (all 3) showed a debt of $582 to a CA. Did not receive a bill or phone call from the CA. Sent all 3 CRA verification request of debt CM without pulling an actual report. All 3 CRA updated the account to show me info on the debt but they also updated the bal to $87. I was sent a printed copy from each CRA. After about 2 weeks I pull my 3-bureau CR today and see the balance is reset to $582! Assuming that basic premise of verification is to verify the debt info is mine and accurate INCLUDING the actual balance reported, is it sufficient to argue with a follow up to the CRAs the info should be deleted b/c the CA reset the balance AFTER they verified the $87 debt upon CRA inquiry? I can't be the first person to run into this, so if there is such a letter floating around to combat this situation I will be thankful for the shortcut.
Unfortunately disputing items with CRAs could cause a major change. The CRA "investigates" by contacting the original creditor/collection agency, and the creditor/collection agency is free to add/delte/change any information. Remember what they (OCs, CAs) report is their bible.
