Can a wife use her balance transfer offer to pay off her husbands high rate card if the balance transfer offer is in her name only and the husbands account is only in his name?

It depends on the bank. For example, Citibank will send you a check made out to the account holder (in this case, your wife) for the amount of the BT. She can then do whatever she wants with it, including writing a check to your credit card account.

BofA lets you write a check to yourself sometimes, sometimes not. I'm not sure about the others. But you could call and ask.

I have wrote BT checks to my checking account from BofA, Cap1, USBank and Chase.
Always good to read the fine print.

The offer usually just asks account number and address. I have never seen it even ask who's names on the account. For all they know you are an authorized user. It's none of their business.

Not a problem, as long as it's not the same credit card issuer. That is, if the wife receives a balance transfer check from Citibank, she cannot use it to pay husband's Citibank credit card.

She can, however, make that check payable to herself, deposit in her checking account, and use that money again to pay off the husband's card. Alternatively, she can make the check payable to her husband, who deposits it into his checking account, and then pays off the high-rate card.

    Done that all the time!

MANY ON-LINE BT'S DON'T EVEN ASK PAYMENT ADDRESS...

    AMOUNT TO BT---$X,XXX.XX

    ACCOUNT #---XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

    Nothing else...

I tried BT from Providian tp CAP1. CAP1 did not accept it. They consider it internal transfer. Are BOTH
of them the same company with different name ???

    That's really weired....

they are both the same in that they are subprime but unless this was account one bought from the other I couldn't tell you. It shouldn't matter one company to another. I would ask specifically why.

As far as I know they aren't the same. But maybe they just don't trust each other. Maybe "no honor among thieves" or something like that. Again I would ask Cap 1 specifically what the problem is with the balance transfer.
