My father is having a credit card problem and asked for my help looking into it. He had a lot of unauthorized charges on his credit card so he called the credit card company and asked them to cancel that card and send him a new one. His credit card bill showed that the account balance was transferred on 12/02/07. How long does it usually take for a credit card company to transfer the account balance? Is it a matter of days or weeks? Or is usually within a couple hours? I'm trying to determine when (what date) he called to cancel the card, he doesn't remember. Whether or not some of the charges were authorized depends on when he called. All I remember is that he had a new credit card on 12/12/07.
It depends on the company. Some send them within a day, some take longer. However, he must dispute the charges IN WRITING within a certain time, not sure if it's 60 or 90 days. While the company may have replied to his call, to preserve his rights under the FCBA, he must do it in writing.
Correct, it is 60 days for dispute of charges, and it is detailed on the back pages of most credit card statements. You also must dispute the specific charges, as to amount, dates, and transaction number.
And if there are some he's not sure of, dispute them anyway. That preserves his rights, and if it turns out that they are his, he can say "OK, I recognize this and it's valid."

I want to know how long after a person call does it usually take the credit card company to transfer the balance. Does it usually take a couple of day or weeks? Or does it take a couple of hours? That's all I want to know.
Usually the transfer is very quick, definitely within a couple of days. In your case it was probably transferred on the same day as issuing of the new account number.
