Any lady Creditnetters out there in the Baltimore/Washington area that have gotten married recently? My wedding is in January and I'm shopping for my dress. Where are the good shops to visit - and the ones to avoid - for a bride who doesn't want to spend more than $600, without having to buy off-the-rack (a la David's)? I've been thinking about buying over the Net, but am not 100% confident that it's a good idea. Has anyone done this? Any input would be very much appreciated!

On a credit-related note, which credit card issuers (Visa/MC/Discover) are most consumer-friendly with regard to disputing a charge? I'm so paranoid that my dress deal will go awry, and so I would like to at least have the option to dispute a charge without having to send them my firstborn child and a pint of blood.

    Thanks for your feedback!!!)

    I got married in Maryland - two years ago...so I guess I qualify. ;)

I shopped locally at one of the bridal shops in Warrenton (first bridal shop I went into, 3rd dress I tried on). Many stores carry the Washington/Baltimore Bridal magazine (Giant is one that I can think of). It gives a large list of photographers, bridal boutiques, DJs, etc. I found my photographer through it.

Really, I would just try a couple small boutiques - they seem to be the most help, and were willing to negotiate on the price, but Hechts, Bloomingdales, etc are also good places to try.
I was pretty wary of the Net - I was scared the dress would not fit. If you decide to go that route I would probably use Mastercard or Visa they usually are pretty quick about reversing charges.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding. :)
