Both me and my better half received .79 cent checks last week for a class action lawsuit against Bank of America. We had no idea we were part of one.

The suit was for incorrectly charged fees.

Anyone else get one of these? We never signed up for anything, they just showed up....

I received an adjustment in my latest statement, with no explanation other than that they were correcting an error they found. The amount was small.

    I got a check for $0.49! I just don't know where I'll invest it!

Typical of class action suits. The wronged parties get squat and the lawyers get rich.

hmmm...maybe mine was .49 cents as well. I will have to check.

Either that or it varied by state. Ironically, I can see their HQ from my house on a clear day. I wonder if I could have (almost doubled) it by .37 cents if they had let me go pick it up instead ?? <grin>

Personally, I hate BOA. I have not had an account with them in years, and I refuse to use their 2.00 a transaction ATM's. My other half still banks with them though...mainly because they hold her mortgage and it's free for her.

    super,

I'm sure we all have a hate-a-bank story. Mine is Wells.

I'm with BofA. Have they screwed up? Yeah. However, they have always fixed it, something Wells was unwilling to do.

My biggest BofA horror story, the company I was working for got bought out. Of course, that means that payroll is being switched from the old direct-deposit payroll to to the new system direct-deposit, with a couple of months of actual checks in between. So I go to the local BofA branch and deposit my payroll check. A couple of days letter I get all of the overdraft notices. They held the check. Fees were going to be in the hundreds, since we had written a ton of checks on the account.

So I call them. Me: Why are you holding the check? Them: Well it's an unknown maker to us. Me: Really, you've never heard of Motorola? Them: Uhhhhh, okay, we'll fix it all.

As long as they take care of me, I'll stick. LOL

BofA does have some free checking accounts. They used to be my primary account. Now I still have the account but don't use it as much. They refuse to remove my ex's name. I just put a little money in when I travel so I can use their ATMs. Other than that, they just sit in the sock drawer.

Was the settlement for checking accounts, or for credit cards? I'll have to go check my accounts.

Well, I went to a BOA once to get a money order. i had just moved and I didn't want to write an out of state check.

They would not let me purchase a money order because I did not have an account there. Not that big a deal, I know, but it struck me wrong. I had cash and needed to buy a money order- they would not let me purchase one.

Someone beind me in line actually stood up for me, took my cash, and bought the money order- from the same teller- then handed it to me. And that was ok to BOA. WEIRD!!!!!

I am weird about little things like that, BUT, I remember them always.

Fwiw, Wachovia has treated me very well.

I just got changed to BOA from Fleet. So far no bad things have happened to me with them. I personally liked Fleet. I hope that Fleet has a good influence on BOA.

Wachovia was also a great bank, just very scarce here in NYS.
