I hope they keep the BofA terms and apply them to Fleet cardholders. BofA has stopped considering delinquencies on other accounts (except other BofA accounts) in determining penalty pricing.

This might help those who are being rate-jacked by Fleet.

    Hedwig,

Do you know for a fact that BofA stopped considering delinquencies on other accounts for determining penalty pricing? Is it there on any of their terms and conditions?

I am thinking of adding one or 2 more cards to my credit card portfolio ... if what you say is true, I will give BofA a serious consideration ....

Also, do BofA terms include mandatory arbitration? That's another big no-no for me. Except for Citi, all my other credit cards are credit-union cards (4, not including Citi), which do not contain arbitration clauses.

    Thanks Hedwig!

I headed over to Bank of America's website intending to search for mandatory arbitration clauses in their terms and conditions. The pop-up for T&C's lists only TILA disclosures, however.

Whenever you get a chance, can you confirm whether BofA requires mandatory arbitration? Your response is strictly voluntary. Thanks!!

I'm not sure how far back I go. My suspicion is that if they have mandatory arbitration, it was printed on a statement and I may have destroyed it. But I'll try to look when I get a chance.

Maybe I'll even call them or check my account on the web site.

I'm not Hedwig, but in my most recent BofA statement, I saw the same amendment to cardholder agreement that he was referring to. It's true!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bank of America & F

I checked the web site, no mention of the terms. I called customer service to see if they had a mandatory arbitration, and the CSR didn't even know what I was talking about. So unless I can find something on a statement, I may not be much help. If someone else knows, please jump in.

    PS--Hedwig is female.

    I agree, GEORGE!!

Do you have any BofA accounts now? If so, how are they treating you? Do you think this will be a good thing?

Bummer. I am on Fleet blacklist but had great relationship with BofA. I wonder if they will merge their blacklists too?

    They MAY do that...

BUT I'm not sure they will deny an account if somebody is on the BofA list and has a FLEET card in good standing...

PROPOSED BANK OF AMERICA/FLEETBOSTON DEAL WILL SHUFFLE CARD DECK

Bank of America Corp. will solidify its debit card lead and move up a notch in the ranks of credit card issuers if its proposed acquisition of Boston-based FleetBoston Financial Corp. gets shareholder and regulatory approval. BofA already is the nation's No. 1 debit card issuer and ATM owner, according to CardLineâ??s sister publication, ATM&Debit News. Charlotte, NC-based BofA had an estimated 15 million signature-based debit cards in issue at the end of 2002. No. 7 Fleet had 3.8 million, giving the combined bank 18.8 million cards versus 12.8 million for No. 2 issuer Wells Fargo & Co., according to ATM&Debit News. BofA says it will have more than 16,500 ATMs after the merger. In 2002, American Express Co. was second with 7,100 ATMs, and Fleet was ninth with 3,500. In credit cards, BofA was the eight-largest issuer last year with about $29.5 billion in managed receivables; Fleet was No. 11 with $16.2 billion, according to Thomson Media's Card Industry Directory. The combined entity would rank seventh, just after J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and ahead of AmEx. At the end of the third quarter, BofA and Fleet had a combined $48.4 billion in receivables, according to their recent earnings reports. BofA, which doesn't have a presence in the Northeast, is proposing to buy FleetBoston in a $47 billion stock deal in which FleetBoston shareholders would get $45 per share, a 42% premium over Fleet's Friday closing price of $31.80. The companies hope to close the deal in 2004's first half. Last week, FleetBoston bought Circuit City Stores Inc.'s $1.5 billion bank card portfolio (CardLine, 10/22).

When I woke up Monday and heard this all over the news (I live in Boston) I was excited for 2 reasons:

I have a B of A Dividene Miles Visa and love it and hope to be able to turn my Fleet Check card into a Dividend Miles Check card when the conversion takes place. To think, I can get miles when I am basicaly paying cash!

Secondly, maybe BofA will actually add a Customer Service Department to Fleet! LOL

Oh Goody, this will be the fourth merger I have gone through in probably seven years. Lets see, Bank of New England, Bay Banks (second bank account), Bank of Boston, Fleet, and now BOA. I was a Fleet customer, whose accounts were transfered to Sovereign Bank so that Fleet could keep the Bank of Boston customers, which I also had as a former Bay Banks customer. I did not want to be with Sovereign. These mergers are getting old! This a pain in the a*s, again! I do everything either online or direct deposit, or automated check payments. I am really getting tired of notifying probably ten different companies about bank changes every 1.5 years!
