I just filed a complaint against Experian with the BBB and the FTC. has anyone ever had any luck with complaints of this type?
I complained against failure to investigate properly and inaccurate reporting. as one of the problems I have a tradelind listed as :

Citifinancial Mortgage, included in bankruptcy, current, past due 30 days, foreclosure process started, balance 0. balloon pmt $21,000 due 2012.

All of the above on the same line and verified on 17 dec 03. This account is closed and paid in full
I have sent the ITS letter via fax, CMRRR and via regular mail.

    Any thoughts???

Never messed with the BBB myself, but the FTC won't do anything but file you away. Once the complaint file is large enough (I've decided truckload sized), then they might go after Experian, but they don't do anything on behalf of individuals.

I have done both. Neither did much except when an OC wanted to maintain their reputation @ BBB. FNBM marked my account - "closed by consumer, PAA/Never late - $0 bal" after my BBB complaint and simultaneous letter to the Office of the President of FNBM.

right now i have a five-way cross-complaint for one account, against two cas, and the oc; with the bbb of the two states that the two cas are in, and the ag's of both states that the two cas are in, and the ftc.

ironically, the out-of-state ag's office & bbb's office has sent me their initial, we've opened your file and have suspended it for 30 days while we wait for a response to your complaint from the company involved -- about two weeks ago; and my states ag's office just replied today; when i hand delivered the papers to their office a month ago. (haven't heard anything from the bbb of the second ca -- in this state as well)

right now its a waiting game to see what response there is to this tactic.

as it was pointed out, the only thing you may get from the ftc is a general pamphlet telling you about the fcra/fdcpa, and telling you to contact the state ag's office if you have further complaints.

Hopefully one day the FTC , BBB and state AG will tire of sending paper out and look into the practices of these companies, Not enough people complain to them, If the FTC and BBB got as much wining as I hear on these credit boards(yes I am just as guilty as the next) they would have their truckload,

    so everyone......
Complain to the FTC its fast and easy. I did

Thanks for the idea to file a complaint with the state attorney general. On the Texas Ag website it says that a TV reporter may do some good so I am contacting all the local TV stations here in DFW. Experian is in the Dallas area so maybe they will put some heat on Experian. I did file with the FTC,BBB and now the texas AG. And yes George I used the word frivolous many times in your honor
    Wish Me luck.

I'm thinking that filling with the court in a formal law suit against the CA will get their attention quicker than any other avtion.

Many government agencies will not respond unless they have numerous complaints about a particular company from a number of individuals.

That is why, when a CA or CRA violates the law "as a matter of policy", a complaint should go to a regulatory agency "as a matter of policy".
