How well does Transunion handle BBB complaints? I have disputed 10 accounts on my report for various reasons on 2 different occasions within the past few weeks. Out of these 10 accounts only 1 of them is marked >Account information disputed by consumer<. I have read multiple posts regarding this issue and that Transunion states that they are unable to mark accounts as disputed due to their inadequate computer system. Well, considering they marked 1 of the accounts as disputed I know this is a crock. I am planning on complaining to the BBB and as a resolution to this I am going to request that the accounts be removed immediately. Has anyone ever tried this and had any luck doing so? If so, what are my chances for getting deletions?

I would love this if it works. But the account is disputed remark came from the creditor more than likely.

But even so, they are mandated to mark anything you dispute as in dispute. Nowhere in the FCRA does it state they only have to mark it if the CRA has the ability to do so.

That remark IS from the creditor - notifying the bureau that they've received notice that the consumer disputes.

I've never seen TU mark an account in dispute when the consumer does so.

Not sure of the answer to this question, but I suspect that TU (and the other CRA's) would pay more attention to a complaint to the FTC and/or your local friendly attorney general. The BBB is more used to handling disputes of bad service or products. They might not know much about credit reporting and the applicable laws.

The FTC address for complaints of FCRA violations is:

    Consumer Response Center â?? FCRA
    Federal Trade Commission
    Washington, DC 20580

For the attorney general, you can try your own state's AG, and/or the AG for the state where the company resides (in the case of TU, it's California) California's AG has a web site: http://caag.state.ca.us/

When you send a complaint, be sure to include your contact info (including phone number if you feel up to it) and the contact info for TU, and cc: TU so they know you're serious.
