SO I am a newbie, but know a teensy bit about this sort of thing I have a few things on my report, including one judgement- my question is I have two items one dated back in 1999 and the other dated in 2000. I also have a forclosure, that is dating back to 2000. I live in NY. What is the SOL for New York? UPDATE- Im a dork- its 6 of date of last activity in NY. The judgement came from a collection agency on a debt that was dating back to 1999. THey claim to have served me, and they didnt. They sent it to an old addy, I had moved, and never got it. Im frustrated to a point where I feel like hiring an attorney. Are there people I can hire to fix this for me? Whats truly annoying is NONE of my debt is new. ALL of it is from 1999-2002. Now its screwing me- my score is so low, I cant even get a credit card or an apartment. Im confused and dont know where to begin. Any advice is appreciated.
CRAs have to remove information where the date of first deliquency is more than 7 years ago. As for the CA, if this is the first you've heard of the debt, and you didn't get served, you may be able to have the court vacate the judgment. But you probably have to act with "diligence" meaning you need to act quickly once you learn of the judgment. Some states also require you to have a valid defense to the claim of debt - i.e. "it's not mine."
