It's reached the point where I am forced to file bankruptcy. What should I make sure I have before I go speak to my attorney? I am absolutely terrible about keeping records (all this debt is old, mostly from college, when I was a complete idiot and signed up for credit cards with little thought for how to actually pay them back) and have very little of my original paperwork, if any.

IN some cases, I'm not even certain WHAT debts I have, or how old they are.

What do I need to find out, and how do I go about it, and well... everything!

You need to know ALL of your creditors because they all have to be listed in the BK petition.
Even if you are unsure if you owe a certain creditor anything, they should be listed.
The reason is that if they are not included then anything you owe them will not be discharged
There are exceptions to this, but for now, get the paperwork, and if no paperwork try to recall ALL creditors and the amounts owed or possibly owed

Pull your credit reports and see if that will refreah your memory.
