I'm not sure if anyone can give me any advice on this My husband and I own a small business. We owe one of our vendors, which is located in Canada, approximately $50,000. Because business has declined tremendously we have fallen behind and this amount is past due. It has not gone to collections but we are making payments of $500-$1000 to the vendor on a weekly basis. However, they recently retained an agency named Cando Credit Consulting run by a man named Doug Cannon. This guy has been trying to get us to write out a payment arrangement plan and they are demanding a substantial payment towards the past due balance. We continue to make the weekly payments to the vendor because that's all that we can do right now. Now he has also started calling our other vendors and telling them we can't pay our bills and things like that. We have tried to explain to them that we are doing the best we can to pay down the balance but if they put us out of business then we won't be able to pay them anything. This guy has been threatening to go to the RCMP (the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and telling us that they will be contacting the FBI and the IRS. I wanted to find out if these are just threats and if there is anything the RCMP can really do considering they are in Canada and our business is in the United States. I don't know if I should just ignore the guy and continue to make the payments as we have been to the vendor. We are really stressed out about this situation and don't really know what we should do. My husband is considering BK. The company is incorporated but will that protect us from them trying to come after us personally? Thanks.
You need to address his calling of other vendors of your business problems,You might consult with an attorney and slap a restraining order on him,although the laws in Canada are different their quite similar in some area's with our consumer laws.Rmcp? whats he gonna due have Bullwinkle arrest you,the FBI only gets involved in consumer affairs,IRS your paying your taxes right?Just let him know it's against the law to file a false report even in Canada.Google the name he's a nasty ex-con and be prepared for shady tactics this guy is a *a**hole*.
