Here is a unique problem that my sister has that we don't know what to do. We discovered a little bit ago that there was a court case against her from collins credit union (bank) that shows she failed to appear in court back in 1996. We belive it has something to do with a loan which she paid off. She had problems around the end of the loan time and they dropped her as a member without any notice or reason. (Just found out one day her member account was closed) The loan officer was changing her due dates repeatedly (8 times through the year) so she had fights with them and didn't care that her accound was closed because the loan was over and got the slips stamped. When I went to add her on my account they said there was a lawsuit involving her so they couldn't add her to my account. The court house said there was a judgement against her but couldn't say what it was for. We had a flood that wiped out the court house last year and they have moved 3 times sence then and when she went there now to find out what the case was about they said they didn't have the records because they were eaither lost or misplaced because of the moving. (shouldn't they be on a computer?) She was never ever served with anything about a court case and would like to know what she can do to find out what it was for, the amount of the judgement, and how to appeal the case because of not being notified. She thinks this case is what kept her and her boyfriend from getting a house a few years ago because they said something was on her history that made them decide not to loan to them. So in a nut shell: 1) paid off bank loan 2) was sued for the loan 3) was never notified of the case 4) lost because of not showing up 5) affected her credit to get a house 6) wants to overturn the ruling Any ideas of what to do? I told her to try the court house again and talk to someone else to find the records. I can't belive that records were lost in the flood. The free lawyers place will not help because it is for gain. They only take cases that are not for gain. (strange, isn't every case for gain??)
