I have an Amex entry on all of my accounts. It is my mom's-shows as open since 1979 (she added me when I was traveling in college). Does it help or hurt to have this open? No late pays on Amex. I haven't found the actual "AU" noted on any report-seems to report as I was the cardholder. I am rebuilding. Multiple lates, two collections <200 total. I have about 15 open accounts, with only 7 showing no negatives.
Re: Benefits of Being an AU/AM Hi Keltex, An Amex account in good standing and opened for 22 years helps you a lot. Amex's system probably has you reported as an authorized user, but this information was never added to your credit reports. So to potential creditors it looks great. Dani
