Hi all, I am looking to try something in order to get my husbands FICO score up from the low 600's and i need your advice if you think it will work. We are trying to get a mortgage in the next year. In the past year, I have personally secured two major credit cards, one from chase and the other from citibank and made my husband an authorized user. Because of our good payment history, I have been able to get the credit limit raised to about 9,500 on the chase and 8,500 on the citibank. The only problem with my credit is that the balances are reaching 50 percent usage on both cards and I want to apply for another card with 0 percent APR for at least a year in my name only. This way the balances will disappear from my husbands credit report and his score will likely be raised. Then we can work on getting the balance down before the APR expires. This brings me to two questions. First, What is a good card for someone who has a newer credit history with a credit score a little over 700 who needs a 0% percent balance transfer rate for a year. I do not have a personal income but my husband makes good money. Second, Will my plan work to raise my husbands score? thanks Diane
I know that most credit cards will not allow you to apply for a credit card specifically to transfer a balance if it is with the same company (ie Chase Cards). So I know I must not apply to another Citi or Chase.
Re: Re: Best BTR card with 700 score Also, it is alarming that you got turned down for a card with such a high Fico. Did they say why? I think by law they have to tell you specifically.
Re: Re: Best BTR card with 700 score dmr you could bt citi to new chase bt old chase to citi and then new chase if you had to .....ps when they send the letter I will let everyone know it will be # of new accounts or avaliable credit to high........
Re: Re: Best BTR card with 700 score Isn't there a way around this? With my Citi cards, there is an option to have a check sent directly to you so that you can payoff creditors at your discretion...So my understanding is that you can apply for another Citi card you'll just have to ask for a BT check made out to you instead of a direct transfer...
Re: Re: Re: Best BTR card with 700 score YES! Have them send the BT amount directly into your checking account! Have them do a direct/electronic deposit to the account and do it for the same rate as balance transfers. It's done all the time, just give them a call. BTW, what about BofA? Once approved, ask them for the BT rate of Prime + 0%. That's for the life of the BT!
