I have a best buy card $2000 limit and owe $1300 on it. I have made 6 payments for twice the minimum each time. I went thru their phone prompts and selected the option for CL increase hoping to speak to someone to discuss this possibility and find out what the criteria is. The system automatically denied me!!! There was no explanation that I was selecting this option for a system generated approval, etc. I spoke to the credit approval group and she stated EQ was reviewed and my score was very low, not even close to what is required. I asked what my score was and she refused to tell me she also refused to tell me their cut-off score. I just ordered my EQ score and it is 682 with a 6 year old $200 judgement from 10/1995 as the only derog! When I first applied for this card my score was 620 for EQ (beacon/FICO). Is the point cut-off more aggressive for CL increases???
She made it sound like I had the worst score in America! Is 682 that bad for EQ which is the closest thing to true FICO?

In my opinion, a 682 is a good score.

I just called Best Buy back and spoke to the credit dept. They stated my "Best Buy" score is obtained from CBS via Equifax. Anyone heard of this company? They said my CBS score was 596 which sucks!! She went on to say it is more difficult to get approved for a Best Buy card than a Chase, or CITI Platinum card and even a AMEX Blue. i asked her if she had been smoking crack! Six weeks ago they tightned their approval criteria because of so many chargeoffs lately!

It's funny... I just applied for a Best Buy card a few weeks ago and was denied online... I had checked the box to also run my app for a Household Bank Mastercard, and got approved for a 2500$ CL with a 671 EQ score.

Funny that Best Buy is harder to get than Mastercard :)

Maybe that Best Buy C/S rep wasn't smoking crack! Your situation is the same as mine. I've been able to get Citi Plat, AMEX LOC, State Farm Plat, a $260,000 mortgage and two 2001 vehicles (bought new last year) but I can't get an increase on a best buy card??
Screw them and Household. There bank is full of losers anyway!

My Best Buy was thru HRS

    It is closed!!!!!!!!! No Regrets

I had nothing but problems with HRS.

Best Buy customer service has gone down hill.

I use Office Depot / Staples or online for anything I would buy at Best Buy.
