Way to go Whyspers! I was approved about 2 months ago for $2500 w/ an EQ score of 704. It was my first store card in over 6 years!

    Congrats!

    It's a Household bank account.

They pulled Equifax. I'm in NY and at the time, my score was 682 (it has plummeted to 650 with four inquiries though <pout>)

I got the card in the mail too. When I tried to use it, it didnt work. Ive tried three times to purchase items from the website and it still declined. I called up the CS and they dont even know why my card was blocked. So I closed the account and shredded the card.

i think you are thinking of Household Finance. Finance loans do ,in fact, look bad on your CR.

It has been suggested that with even a POSITIVE FINANCE account your score is NEGATIVELY affected...HOW BAD, I DON'T KNOW...

When my newest student loan from Wells Fargo (private not federal) hit my reports, I gained somewhere around 15 pts. Then when I disputed them and one fell off, I gained about 40 pts. So the moral is........ who the hell knows.

    BTW - congrats whypsers!!

Sorry, had to work late. Anyway, If you go to Gregs site-Creditscoring.com-there is, and I dont have time to look it up now, a pretty long transcript on some fico people being grilled by some type of public officials in, I believe Pensylvania, on the negative effect of having TL's with finance companies.I can only assume that Household Finance (HFC) and Household Bank are one in the same and fico sees it as such.

I have had four Household tradelines, two by choice with HFC and two I got blindsided on (Bestbuy & Culligan). With Bestbuy, I signed up for one of those 12 month interest free deals and when I got the card in the mail and scoped out the back of it my hair stood up, yep *HOUSEHOLD*. Soooo...I waited them out for a year, paid up and closed my account. When I pulled my reports about six months later, Hhld Bank/Bestbuy was reporting:

    High Credit:0
    (and my alltime favorite)
    Closed By Credit Grantor
    *jerks*

That being said its probably a good credit builder for people with short histories. And as far as Im concerned Bestbuy has about the best deals around.
    So enjoy Whyspers.

Household bank and household Finance are too different companies as far as your FICO is computed. A bank line is completely different than a finance company line in the eyes of creditors and the CRAs.
