I no longer have a credit card other than my debit card with Visa logo. But I do need one. I travel a lot and need this card for car rentals and hotel stays. Last time I was embarrassed when I tried to use my check card and the car rental place said that they did not take it. Bummer!

Factors: I am in the middle of trying to apply for a decent mortgage rate, but in reading this board I understand from some that it is quite possible to rebuild credit with a secured or unscured card. I need a credit card. I have already had a Cap1, Direct Merchant's, & Cross Country Bank (worse mistake of my life) that are paid off or charged off, so which cards other than these do you recommend? Or do you recommend getting a card at all? My debt-to-income ratio is small and I have no large bills other than defferred student loans hanging over my head and a car loan which is current.

Which cards are best and has the least turned downs for someone with credit scores in the 500's?

Bank of Louisiana has a secured card and only a $15 annual fee.

JCB has a secured card too.
