I've got to sing the praises of USAA's credit card here. It is by far the best card I have. I've had it for 4 years and they have NEVER jerked me around-like MBNA or DISCOVER giving a 12.99 fixed rate..err 14.99. In fact my interest rate has only gone down and my credit line up! I have good credit and I just switched to a better plan they have where the current interest rate is 5.75(prime +1%) and a i think a $50 fee waived the first year, otherwise their interest varies up to I believe 18% variable. No fees for cash advances, checks, or balance transfers and the interest rate is whatever your purchase apr is. Talk to their customer service reps and ask them what they think about the company and you will get glowing reviews!
They have an internally generated score for determining credit line increase, which is great for keeping hard inquiries off. What you do is ask for a CL increase and if they can't give right away, that means your score isn't high enough, so say nevermind(you might even just ask upfront if your score is high enough for an increase).
Incidently, you no longer have to be in the military to get the card. You do however have to get a USAA member # which takes a few minutes.
