I am interested in a credit card to rebuild my scores.

I was wondering if you have had good luck and can recommend a company that has treated you fairly? Good fees and limits?

My Equifax score is coming in at 610. TU = 550.

    Thanks!

I would say that Cap 1 is a very good rebuilding card. They have great customer service. Charlie

What CRA does Cap 1 base their acceptance on? What scores/guidlines do they use?

Captial One usually pulls from all 3.

They're very lenient as far as being approved. Even if your scores aren't that great, you'll get one of their secured cards, usually $49 or $99 security for a $500 limit, reports unsecured, reports to all 3, and after 6 months you can PFB Mr. Cooke to get your security back and get a cl increase.

What's the best way to apply for Cap 1?

Well I've always applied through the automated system (except for the last time when I got a guaranteed approval for plat. in mail and returned it). The nice thing about it (applying by phone) is you're simply applying for "a" Capital One card, not a "specific" Capital One card... so, if you do not qualify for platinum or gold, you'll get classic, or if you don't qualify for the classic, you'll get secured.

I've heard that Orchard is OK, and that they are fairly easy to get. Charlie

Does anyone have experience with Cap 1 secured?

BTW: Do CRA's treat secured differently than sub-prime cards?

    Thanks for the help!

I do. I had a secured Visa with Cap One that was converted to a Gold Visa. My secured card had no application fee, no processing fee, $29 AMF, and my security earned some interest, it also reported as unsecured.

I highly suggest doing a secured card (like C1's) vs. a subprime unsecured card with enough fees to wipe out your initial credit limit. (at least with the secured card you get all those $$'s back)

How did you get them to report as unsecured? Or is that commonplace?

With Capital One, as far as I know, they always report secured cards as unsecured to the CRA's. Some companies do it this way, others don't. Always ask up front, you don't want the card reporting as secured.
