I have a couple of collection accounts on my credit reports. What is the best way to contact them to settle the account? Is it best to send a letter, or call them first to offer to settle?

    Thanks

Thank you. So, send them the Original Creditor Validation letter first? Do I send this letter to the collection agency or the creditor who sent the account to collection? Example - I have a verizon or other phone but it was sent to collection. Do I send to verizon or the collection agency?

    Thanks!

Oh, wait - is it the debt validation letter?? That one looks like the validation letter. I think I am starting to get confused here!

I thought I understood, but when I went to get the letters ready I realized I don't. The first line of the letter states "thank you for your recent inquiry". What if no one wrote to me? Do I still send this letter out? What about credit accounts that were listed as being included in bankruptcy? One more - do I even write to the collection agencies or just go straight to the original creditor?? I feel like the more I read, the more confusted I am becoming!
