I was in the process of refinancing. The closing date got moved back. The old morgage co. did a check by phone for the payment for the morgage. The check was scheduled for 2 weeks in advance. The rep said that the check would be in case the loan did not close, in order for me not to get a late payment. All of the problems got resolved, they sent a payoff, and the closing attorny sent the amount specificed. Since I am thinking my account is paid in full, I did not put the money in the bank to cover the check, since things were "Settled". Well, the morgage co, did not accept the payoff check from the closing attorney and said that the amount was close to a payment short. They sent a new payoff with the correct amount, and I gave the additional funds to the closing attorney. The problem, after all this was done, they hit me with a 60 late on my credit report. First, I followed thier rep instructions. He said that if we close before the check was issued, we would not need it. Second, they were sent a check AND THEY SENT IT BACK. Third, it took them about 2 weeks to figure out why the numbers were not adding up and to correct them (the had also incorrectly applied some insurance payments to my account) I called and tried to discuss it with them to no avail. I would prefer to go thru the credit b. so the only have 30 days as opposed to the forever and a day they will take. Any advice on how to do this.
