Anyone here have any experience with having really bad credit /BK and applying for a fed job that requires a background check? Should I not even bother? I don't have anything else in my background that could be considered risky except maybe some student protests, and I have a long and successful career history with good references.

    Thanks!

I dont think you should have to much of a problem. if they ask you I would let them know up front though because if you dont and they find it you might as well cancel christmas because you are not gonna get the job. I think when they do the credit checks I think the main thing they look for is tax liens and other public judgements.

    Also, no defaulted student loans.

Not good, Uncle Sam really frowns on this.

As already stated, don't lie. However, if there's a box that asks "Have you filed a bankruptcy in the last 7 years?" and it's been longer, answer correctly.

Also, if it's not a computerized application, you can omit the answer.
