Although I may be late in the conversation I add in saying "Don't file Bankruptcy". I did it and I know that it's a major setback. I was fortunate that I had alot of "life" rebuilding to do which caused me not to need credit temporarily. I filed because of an Accident which left me some MAJOR bills. Anyway the credit score is not really a snapshot of your credit history but of your "likeliness to default." Considering that the reports are correct for these two situations... a person that just filed bankruptcy is looked at as a lessor risk than someone with established credit but overextended or close to it. I'm sure that FICO has some majic figures as well as calculating debt or availible credit. Also the profession has to be tied in there too.
