By the way...everything that was on sale by Coach is GONE!

They still have a ton of Kate Spade, DKNY, and Ralph Lauren hand bags, etc. left.

    Dogman,

I am convinced that your chances of getting a Macy or BL card are greater during the XMAS season. They will want your business. Once you get one of the cards, you will eventually get the other. I suggest applying in the store not on the internet. Make the application personal. I hope you read my December comments.

Half of my post BK credit recovery is due to the manner in which a BK just brushs aside your old debts and make the greedy lenders look at you as a loan prospect. The other half is due to being personal with lenders - Credit Unions, Planetfeedback to Cap One, Bloomies etc.

In your case, you are better off than me, as your BK accounts will disappear sooner. So if BL does not arrive this year, it will be soon.

Now for the most interesting topic here:

    DRUMROLL PLEASE:

I too own ROLEX - Mine is a DateJust - No I did not want the President LOL.

My older Rolex was grandfathered in under the CA BK jewelry allowance. I bought a new Rolex in 2000.

Now having said this, I hope you appreciate what I am doing for you. You see, I hope it doesn't happen but...

If I were a BK hater, and I mean a real BK hater (totally irrational) and I were to read this thread and notice that 2 men who had BK'd are discussing their Rolex purchases - I would be peeved to say the least. LOL

So Dogman - keep the fingers crossed and put your helmet on. It may be raining insults shortly on both of us. My helmet is on and I will share the rain.

As they said in the movie "Foul Play" - Beware the Dwarf"!! Or in this case, beware of a man whose name starts with Dxxxx. He couldn't remember to pay his student loans. Has some chargeoffs and even did a BK with his wife. But he is rabid when it comes to others who BK. Lately his credit score has been dropping. etc. etc. ROFLMAO

My fingers are crossed. He and the other idiots won't see this thread. LOL

FOR THE RECORD - Dogman and I each had a BK due to life threatening health problems that appeared to prevent us from doing our Professions a few years ago.

P.S. - Dogman - what model of Rolex do you favor? I know they are all excellent. I am so impressed with Rolex that my daughter will receive one from me when she turns 18. My nephew has my old one listed in the BK.

    Best regards,

    Jim

Perhaps one of the best things about our credit system is that there are chances to still get ahead after making a big mistake like a bankrupcy. The opportunity to get a Rolex is what encourages people to work hard. There is always something to strive for. Without the ability to get nicer and nicer stuff, what real reason is there to do your best?

I have the datejust by the way--love it.

I did the SS/GOLD Submariner - with the platinum face and is has diamonds on the numbers of the dial - other than 12 -6 - 9 which has a blue sapphire at each of those dial locations.

With Rolex it does not matter - the least expensive SS Submariner ($3500) is exquisite.

SS/Gold ( Two Tone) Oyster bracelet on my DateJust. No gemstones. Champagne (gold colored) face.

When I bought it, my second choice was the Platinum face with Roman Numerals.

I agree that all the Rolexs are handsome excellent watches. That SS base model for $3,500 was only about $2,000 in 1996. Prices have really gone up.

The submariner model is outstanding. I considered that myself as I liked the larger size of the watch.

Ah - these tough decisions. LOL

    Best regards,

    Jim

    Dogman,

I have a question for you? I hope you don't mind it.

Do you know any customer who has been satisfied buying a Rolex via mail order?

As you know, there are authorized dealers who charge the list price. Then there are the out of state mail order companies that are not authorized sellers. They do discount and a CA resident can avoid the sales tax but these unauthorized sellers are a mixed bag. indeed one of them has a terrible reputation.

When I bought 2 years ago, I located two local authorized sellers who would negotiate a little if I came in and paid via a check. I bought from one of them.

If you and others you know simply bought locally at full or a slightly discounted price I don't need to know any details as I won't be traveling to the Bay area to buy a watch.

    Best regards,

    Jim

Hi Jim - you know (but for the benefit of those who do not), ROLEX does not sell via internet or mailorder. Nope, I don't know of any such places, but yes, if there are a couple of dealers, you can negotiate - somewhat, like yourself. Mine was the same price at 3 dealers, and like most ROLEX, they no longer offer the Platinum face on my sub. :)

LOL - I do know if I was going to spend that for a watch, I wanted it registered and fitted and authorized.

    Via Third Party???
You know there would be a huge chance of someone changing out the movement, etc - and then sending on in the process as a real ROLEX. The doubt would not be worth it....
However, if one buys a ROLEX from a current registered owner, some great deals can be had.
BUT, this means the ROLEX owner needs money - so offer 50% of the retail for a perfect, not scratched watch.

I have noticed that all the ads I see for used ROLEXes are "IN THE BOX AND HAVE NEVER BEEN WORN!!!!" Jim, if I have a ROLEX in a box - its going to get worn LOL!

hope you are having fun this weekend -

    Thanks Dogman,

    Topic 1

I agree with your point of view. When I bought my Rolex, I too wanted the registration and Rolex Box. Since I live in Sothern California, authorized Rolex dealers are fairly common. I located 4 of them close to my home. I contacted them and here is what I was told...

2 of them said list price only. No haggling as that breaks the agreement with Rolex.

The 3rd seller told me list price but he would waive the sales tax (8%) here. But I was told not to discuss it with anyone. LOL

The 4th seller told me 10% off list. I would have to pay sales tax. I bought from him. Again, I was told not to discuss. More LOL

I was satisfied with the deal as I got $500+ off the price of the watch. I also cross referenced the serial number of the watch and found out it was manufactured in 1999. There is a normal one (1) year interval between manufacture and sale of new Rolexs as they are manufactured in Switzerland. Remember, I bought in 2000.

    Topic 2

A colleague bought a used SS/Gold DateJust in Downtown L.A. for $2K after hard negotiating some years ago. This was 40% of retail. The watch runs and looks great. but he did take a chance. Of course no registration and no Rolex box.

    Topic 3

Alan Marcus Co. advertises 25% off new Rolexs for sale with no sales tax. This dealer is unauthorized. I don't really know anything about them except that they appear to buy up inventories of Rolexs from dealers who go out of business. I have met a lot of Rolex owners but not one who has bought via mail order.

I have avoided mentioning one other mail order company who sells via mail order as they have a horrible reputation for defrauding customers. They are literally "Caveat Emptor".

Lastly, E-Bay has used Rolex's for sale. I would be afraid to buy here.

In conclusion, If had been unable to negotiate a little with a local authorized dealer, I simply would have paid the list price.

Now if you had told me that you bought via mail order at discount with no problems - that would have been interesting. But as I said, I have never met a
Rolex owner who has bought via mail order.

    Best regards,

    Jim

    Jim,

You might also look into Ashford.com. I haven't bought a Rolex from them, but have bought some expensive pens at a discount. They are well established and reliable and it is usually easy to find a coupon for 20% off virtually anything. You might also look into Govberg in Philadelphia. They advertise a lot in the airline magazines for both new and used Rolexes and they are also a fine store with an excellent reputation.

    Hi Jim! Hi Luxury!

Luxury - I will check out ashford.com to look at their items :)

Jim, as you know, LOL - even if someone got a ROLEX (real, yes) from somebody at half price, no - one EVER asks WHERE the ROLEX came from - everyone just knows its a ROLEX and its excellent taste - no matter what apparel one wears....even nothing at all!

    Jim,

Bottom line is DON'T DO IT! Go to a nice jewelry story inside of a mall or whatever and get the watch. Don't do none of this mail order, eBay, 3rd party b.s. When you are spending that kind of money, you want it to be all legit! You'd be surprised how many fake Rolex's are floating around out there. I talked to a jeweler at Ben & Bridge and he said that he's seen fake ones where you had to crack it open and examine the inside to determine that it was a fake! That's one good replica.

Just go to a jewelry store and get one with all the papers, etc. You may pay a little more but it's worth it. Just make sure you get a box, papers, etc. and make sure that it's authentic! :)

    You are so right !!!

By coincidence the store you mentioned was one of the four I contacted in 2000 when I bought my Rolex. They only sell at list price. Nice store with a large inventory. A friend bought his wife a ladies Rolex there with my help. The wife loved it.

    Best regards,

    Jim

P.S. - Thanks for putting up with us watch enthusiasts. Again, congrats on your BL success.
