can an amex blue be upgraded to an amex starwood card? I know I can call and ask myself just curious if anyone knew before I called?
Just curious... why are people afraid to call companies and ask questions that can really only be answered by the company anyway? Each person's situation is different, and you're only going to find out your answer by asking AMEX yourself.
Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Assuming you have a good payment history, AMEX will let you trade any card they issue for any other card they issue...except for the black one. So, that means that the decision will be based on the individual's own history with AMEX, as well as their individual credit report....
Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? This is untrue. You cannot "trade" a charge product for a credit product, no matter how good your internal history is with AmEx. This is a company logistical limitation that is NOT based on any given individual and the original poster is right to ask this question on this board prior to risking an inquiry. And if you don't think the original poster needs to ask on the board, you have an easy solution. Don't read the thread. Put the poster on ignore. Heck, put all of us on ignore. Leave the board altogether. Now - are you bold enough to act on these solutions? _____ To the original poster, you cannot "upgrade" Blue to Optima (i.e. Starwood) or vice versa, but you can apply for one card (you will generate a hard inquiry) and move the credit line from the old card to the new card. You will want to call AmEx MORE for this. Search on this board for their direct number.
If I were you I would apply for the Starwood (It´s easy) If approved call New accounts and ask for a credit line increase on the new account, or if you don´t want to keep the Blue, request combine both cards. New accounts or regular cust rep can combine the two accounts. You dont´need the MORE Dpt . By the way it´s almost impossible to speak with them directly. The numbers on the board doesn´t work or transfer you to new acct dpt.
Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? thank you very much Marci! You're response is why I asked the question here, so I could save the trouble of being told different things by different customer service reps. Thank you!
Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Hi Marci, I agree with you COMPLETELY - if somone has ANY question, they should not be discouraged to ask it here. Now I have a question myself; I have an optima platinum with a seriously rediculous apr (23.8%) - can I move to a different product such as the costco card? By the way, the reason they jacked the rate was because several years ago, I was having financial issues, and this reflected on my reports. I was NEVER late with amex, but they took it upon themselves to first lower my credit line ($5000 BELLOW my then current balance - putting me 5000 over the limit) and they also jacked up my rate. I have since persuaded them to raise the credit limit back up (threatened lawsuit) - but unfortunately the high APR is still there. Thanks, Sal
Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? I don't know what kind of card product Costo is, though I suspect that it is an Optima card as well. MORE would be able to tell you if you can convert your Optima card to Costco. But before you do, I'd check with AmEx's Customer Level Repricing Dept. and ask for a rate decrease. Search on this board for "customer level repricing". If that doesn't work, I'd call either "R" or the Executive Assistants to argue (nicely) about the APR. http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?threadid=21337
Re: Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Starwood is harder to get than a Blue? Just by observation..on this board at least...it appears Blue has more strict criteria for approval. Soup
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? No, from easy to hard... Green Delta Optima all other Optima (including Starwood) Blue Platinum Centurion - lol!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Hi Marci (and unmentioned others), Your post was right on target.......but where is the Gold card positioned ? Sister Girl
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? I think Gold and Green are about the same; just depends on how much cash you want to spend.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? "IF" I got 20 miles for every $1.00 I spend and a FREE COMPANION TICKET FOR EVERY FLIGHT...I WOULD "THINK" ABOUT BLACK...
Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Marci you are kick a$$. Thank you so much for your advice to call customer repricing. It took all of 2 minutes of my time to drop my APR from 23.9% to prime + 9.99. I owe you big time -Sal

Re: Re: Re: blue upgraded to starwood? Congrats. Is this a reward card? If so, that's the APR I have on all my AmEx reward cards. If not, give them a call back in 6 months and work on 'em some more. You know we at CreditNet do it.
