I was browsing BOAs website looking for info on a secured card. To qualify, it says that you must not have filed bankruptcy ever. Does anyone know if you can get around this by speaking to a CSR? It's not like you are actually getting credit. They have the money, and it gives me a positve tradeline. I don't want to waste a hard inquiry if it is auto decline. I just sent off for the AP Bank card. Any other suggestions?
I was thinking about applying for this card too, but I have a BK that is 9 years-old. So I called BOA's 800# and also talked to a BOA branch manager where I live. They both told me that even though I had a BK on my report, they would still consider my application due to the fact that the BK was 9 years-old. It probably wouldn't hurt for you to call a CSR yourself, just to be safe. Good luck.
Your bk should fall off very soon, depending on what month you filed. The CRAs will drop your bk notation a few months before the 10 year mark. I would wait for that since you so close. By waiting you will have no hassles, better APRs and higher CLs. Best regards, Mirage
Yes, and I can't wait! I filed in April of 1995 and had everything discharged in August of 1995. I actually don't even need the BOA secured card (I've got a Citi Illumina card and a Cap One card, both with limits over $5,000)...and have a good car loan (2.9%). But getting the BK off my reports will be great...that's the only negative I have on there (no lates, no charge offs, no judgements)...knock on wood.
I applied for BofA 2 years post BK w/scores in the low 700/high 600 range. I was turned down for BK. Spoke w/a CSR who told me it would be "long time" after BK for a regular card and five years for the secured card. This happened a few months ago.
If you don't think BofA will give you a secured card, what about Cap One? They will probably never unsecure it, but it's a good start, and you can always close it later when you get better cards.
Just called BOA, and the CSR told me it is auto-decline for anyone with BK in their CR. Guess I'll take my money elsewhere. As for Cap One, their secured cards are by solicitation only. I have opted out on my CRs. Plus, I had a $500 debt with them during my BK. They probably have a blacklist.
