Banks are strange. my bofa plat mc was recently raised to 22.5K my bofa visa classic (my oldest card) is 8.9K yesterday i get the following offer on the bofa classic visa: transfer a minimum of 5K - pay 1.9% - for 12 months - no transaction fees. Nice. i call up bofa retention and sweetly ask - may i get that same offer on my Plat MC - which has a much higher cl? nope, sorry, they tell me - on your plat MC you can have the prime rate for the life of the balance for balance transfers - which is also nice - but the 1.9 for 12 months is only available on your visa card. Also - the prime rate on my MC card - is ONLY available for bts. In the past they sent you checks which you could put into your checking acct at the special rate. however - this time around- for me at least - the prime is only availble for bt - on the Plat MC. HOWEVER - the 1.9% for 12 months on the visa classic is also good for depositing the bt check into your bank account! i asked them if i could transfer some of my cl from my Plat MC to my visa classic (Amex allows you to transfer cl from card to card). Nope, can't do that - HOWEVER - they can consolide - close the plat MC - and transfer the 22.5K to the visa - for a total cl of 31.4K - and the 1.9% offer will be avail for the total cl. So i went ahead and consolidated. The Plat MC was about a year and a half old - the visa - my oldest card is a little over 5 years. It'll be interesting to see if there's any score change, for better or worse. Anybody have any predictions? Mark LA
