I got a letter from BofA and Dividend Miles saying that I was preapproved for a BofA Visa. I went online and got denied due to a chargeoff in excess of $1k.

This chargeoff was about 5 years ago and my FICO is about 649 at the momnent. ANyone know if it would be worthwhile to write a letter asking for reconsideration, or would it just be a waste of time?

I would like this card as I fly a lot on United and US Airways and would like to build up more miles when I use my CC to charge business expenses.

I agree, pfb is the key to getting what you want from bofa. I have always had success with pfb and them.

Thanks for the response, I will try PFB and see what they have to say.

I tried PlanetFeedback and got a response letter stating that they would like to work with me and asking me to submit paystubs, W-2s, etc. Is this a good sign?

YES!!!!! This means it's not INSTANT DENIAL! ;) Actually, back in the days of Robin Bricklin, I submitted my W2's to her and was approved for a $5k Visa Platinum card!

As long as your reports are clean of derogatory credit, you are most likely going to be approved! (Unless you lied about your income on the application!)

Thanks for the help, it worked!!!! I am all happy. I got a message back that after reviewing my documentation, they approved me for a Dividend Miles card with a CL of $5k. They did not state whether or not the card was Platinum, Gold or Classic, I don't really care which one, just happy to be starting a relationship with a prime bank with a card with a decent APR and the bennies of miles. I should receive the card in a week or so and will find out then.

Anyone know how they are with credit line increases as I build history?

    Congratulations!!

I have had a few CL increases on mine, but not much and not often. Come to think of it, I probably haven't had an increase for several years.

You can check the status online. it will tell you what kind of card you got and the APR.

I am so stupid. I actually applied and got turned down. The score I paid for with TU was 690. The score generations bank pulled was 631. No negatives or lates. Here are my turndowns

Number of revolving accounts with high balance compared to high credit (1)
Length of time since oldest account was established (7.3 years)
Number of finance company accounts (1)
Length of time since most recent revolving account was opened (6 months)
