My BOFA credit card autopayment from my BOFA checking account got messed up and I got hit with a 30-late on my CR. When I made a payment manually to get caught up, I explained that I wanted that payment to cover both the late and the new, and of course even though the woman on the phone said ok, they didn't do that. The banker at my branch handled it perfectly - called up the credit card people and explained the situation and sent them paperwork attesting that they had told me that the autopayment from my checking account would be in force and that it was a branch error. He also credited my checking account $35 to cover the late fee that the credit card section had dumped on me, and said that if they get around to waiving the $35 fee as well to just consider the extra $35 as an apology for the inconvenience. He called me yesterday (about two weeks later) to let me know that he followed up with the BOFA credit card people and that they were sending me a letter acknoledging the bank error and adjusting my credit record. They told the banker that it would take place "on next month's update." Is next month's update on my due date, or on some random date? I'd like to buy a car at the end of April and I want this taken care of in time to get my financing in order (my PLUS score took a 51 point hit, so now I'm temporarily back under 650). My scores should be straddling 700 once this gets cleared up, which is my best score ever. Other than a couple of people at BOFA's credit card unit that handle late accounts, I've had universally good experiences with BOFA, both when I financed a used card with subprime credit in 2000, as well as with my local branch that opened last year.
Keep in mind that your FICO score (the one that really counts) could have taken a larger or smaller hit than your PLUS score, and that the PLUS score may be quite a bit higher or lower than your FICO. On the good news side, Experian updates extrememly quickly once the CC issuer updates, usually within 5 days of your closing date (although they can do an out-of-cycle update if they want to)
Ok, so it's based on my statement closing date? I hope so, since mine is this coming Tuesday. I know the PLUS score <> FICO, but it's been pretty close for me (within 10 points) when I've been able to compare the two.
