    Hi all,

I want to thank Saar for posting the info below a few weeks ago.

I called the account manager number first, somehow got routed to customer service who immediately transferred me to retention without my specifically requesting it (I just told them I wanted the 9.9% purchase rate, and they said I'd have to speak with retention).

Retention could not offer me the 9.9% purchase b/c I'm still in the 8.9% purchase for 6 months deal (two weeks until it expires). She told me to call back after my current offer expires to get the 9.9% purchase apr. But today they did offer me prime for life of the balance transfer, which will be 4.75 on the next billing cycle. Not bad, except that I had nothing to transfer since Citi is at 3.9% for the next few months.

I did get my credit limit raised with a hard inquiry, but not by much based on my income.

Just an FYI for BofA folks looking for a good BT rate. Call retention if you want it.

"Accounts older than 6 months & in good standing will be considered by Bank of America's Retention Department for a lower APR -- if you call. The # for Retention is 1-800-776-6602. If you want to go by the book (you should!) call this number first 1-800-274-5060 (Account Managers), and proceed to Retention only if you get a "no". Lowest purchase rate they give (according the their web site) is 9.90% - if anyone has additional info about it, feel free to post."

Marci, ( or posting for the benefit of others)

I emailed BofA through the web site. The end result was an increase of credit line from 9300 to 12,000 and a low variable rate equal to WSJ Prime Rate for life ( which was 5.00% as of December 1). This rate applies to any balances transferred on or before Mach 30.. until they are paid in full. I've only had a BofA account since last February.

I have effectively moved a 12k MBNA balance costing us about $100 a month in interest to 50.00 in interest w/BoA.

But there's more.. I physically stopped in at our local BofA branch last Friday to discuss the remaining balance on our home mortgage. They are making us a loan @ 6.99%

    marci,

I have both Bank Of America Platimiun cards and they have both 9.9 % fixed APR. Last week, I tried to lower my 9.9 fixed APR for purchase and they told me the lowest rate they have for purchase. The offer me prime for lifer for BT and currently I don't have anything to transfer. They increased both of my Platinum Cards without hard inquiry. Last week, they sent me a 5.9% fixed APR convenience checks for BT until it paid off. The customer service is friendly and nice like Citibank.

Are they doing a credit check at all when they consider lowering your rate? Is it hard or soft?

    Cherie,

That's good re your home refi. I know that you must be saving a ton in interest. Put it in a MMA or something, and you'll have a nice e-fund. :)

    Ron,

I think I should have waited until preapproved before asking for a CL increase. They don't pull hard inquiries for those.

    Karen,

They did not pull any inquiries for an apr reduction request or for a BT offer request. I was not transferred to the credit dept. until I asked for CL increase.
