BofA -vs- National City???

I am debating applying online for BoA (I have had checking and savings with them for years) at the risk that I may be blacklisted for an 8-yr old charge-off - incl in BK). But from other posts, it sounds like I may not be blacklisted after all.

The question I have is should I do this? It looks like the best they offer online is 9.9% fixed with no rewards/cash/etc. Is there something special that BoA offers that I'm not seeing? I know lots of C'Netters apply to BoA all the time.

The reason I ask is that I have an offer on the table from a National City Bank for a Cashbuilder Platinum at 9.9 fixed that offers cash back.

What should I do? BoA? Nat City? Both? Why?

    Thanks!

I pick BofA for their BT offers.

My vote is also for BofA.

I have both cards and BofA offers:

Line increases without a hard inquiry
Always offers balance transfer offers in the mail

    National City:
I haven't been offered anything as of yet(had the account for a year), and they won't increase the line without a hard inquiry.

Don't know about Nat City, but BofA is generous with their CLs and CLIs and I like the no BT fee. Usually get some great BT rates too...like George mentioned... 0% + prime.

I was thinking National City. Rewards are good.
As much as I like BofA, they offer no rewards. I recently received something in the mail that I can add rewards for $25 per year? I don't think so.

Although BofA offers awesome credit lines and increases, I have yet to receive a good balance transfer from them. What gives? I called and the rep only offered my current APR. I have received awesome transfer rates from Citi, Chase and Amex. Not sure what's up with my BofA account. LOL

If you are going to use the card for purchases, I would suggest something with rewards. If you are going to use it for balance transfers, maybe you could get really good BT offers from BofA.

    Good luck with your decision!!

Well, I am curious as to whether I am on BoA's blacklist, so I bit the bullet and applied online lat night...

    Here's what I get:

    Your application is pending.

Thank you for applying for a Bank of America Visa Platinum card. Your application is in a pending status.

Please check back in 24 hours to review your application status at https://www.bankofamerica.com/creditcards/decision. Note: This address begins with https not http because it is a secure area. Please be sure to include the "s" when you return for your application status.

For your security, you'll need to sign in using information you've just provided on your application.

I guess it's just a waiting game now, but at least it wasn't an instant decline so apparently they have something to think about....

Wish me luck! If no go on this I will sign up for Nat City Cashbuilder I guess.

That actually is not a denial, this just means that your app is being looked at. This usually takes 48 hours.

Check back, you may be pleasantly surprised...

Rooting for you on the sidelines!

    Thanks! I am hopeful!

If I am turned down, it would have to be only b/c of a blacklist.

They pulled TU (just checked). Score was 777.

Current bal over $5K in BoA checking and savings (it asked me acct numbers for those on app).

NiceGuy, yeah I got the same message and was approved two days later. (I think I logged on in the early evening)

    Hang in there!

Still waiting for Chase and Bank One.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Mirage--congrats on the BofA. Keep us posted on the rest.

NiceGuy--BofA does offer a rewards card. They have the US Airways Dividend Miles Visa. Just like most frequent flier cards, it gives you one mile on US Airways for each dollar spent. I often get BT offers for prime for life. I don't usually take them because I'm trying to get miles.

And the annual fee is steep.

The alaska air rewards card is $75 and the APR a bit high at 13.99%

But, the rewards are dollar=miles plus 1000 every year you renew, plus some other goodies as well.

I look at it just the opposite. I think I pay $60 per year. In two years, I can easily run $25,000 through the card. I can probably do it in a year, but let's say I go at least partially into the second year.

I think $120 for a ticket anywhere in the country is pretty cheap.

And I don't care about the APR, I never carry a balance.
