I've seen a lot of you that have a letter from the OC or CA stating the account was settled and you recommend sending it to the CRA. Does the CRA check to see of the letter is real? If not, why not send a bogus letter?

First of all, why would you send a letter that says account settled? That's almost as negative as still being in default. If you're referring to a letter that says paid/never late, or asking for deleition, or anything alone those lines, then the answer would be the letter is usually written on the OC's letterhead, it also may have some sort of code on it (a ltr I received from a CA directing the CRA's to delete had one) that may verify authenticity (for the CRA), and finally the CRA's just may check it out.

Wouldn't be worth facing mail fraud charges on.

I have gotten lettters from CA's and creditors that tell the CRA to remove an item. The Cra's always check with the company the letter came from. They have said we can't trust you because you may have forged the letter (at least thats what they imply).

And now we see why! We are about using the law, not breaking the law.
