Gosh, these folks are tough. This is the only remaining negative on our reports. The negative is scheduled to fall off this summer. I had disputed it last year to no avail so I wrote them a letter and asked nicely for it to be removed a few months early. I figured all I had to lose was a stamp.

Sent the letter and haven't heard anything. So I call. Was told that the credit bureaus are strict on the policy and they can't do anything about it. I said you had the ability to put the late payment on my report, you could quite easily remove it as a courtesty since it's gonna fall off soon anyway.

Nope. No way. So I'm stuck with one negative until late this summer, but it'll fall off then and we'll have clean reports. But it's just so poetic that I had an account with 27.. yes 27 late payments updated to 'never paid late' and this one late payment is sticking to our reports like it's been placed there with superglue.

Guess I really don't have much room to complain.. I know it's not affecting our scores that much, but it woulda been so nice to have a nice clean report! I wanted to apply for AmEx but with a negative, I figure I'll get declined. So I'll just put it on my calendar to apply for AmEx this fall.

    Ozzy,

You have respectable scores regardless of that one late.

Sometimes if you write the credit bureau and indicate this account/information is obsolete as it is 7yrs old, they may just delete it and not pay much attention to the exact month it should fall off.

This has worked for me a couple of times.

    Best wishes

Hey, thanks... it's worth a try... I'm just horribly impatient and just don't wanna wait a few months if that negative can come off sooner! Thanks for the suggestion. The worse they can say is 'no'!

    Thanks,
    Ozzy.

Ozzyburger, I don't think that one late if it is 30 days, will effect you at all applying for American Express. It is very old. I have 1 30 day late on two of my reports and I received the Blue with a high limit and 10.9% apr (which was the lowest offered at that time).

My 30 day late is from 1997. Hope this helps. Don't worry yourself about it. Good luck!! :)
