I have about $11,000 i like to transfer from 2 cards onto 1 BUT im lookin for 0% to make it down some. Since it seems i cant get that rate what would you guys from the board suggest i take. I seen 2.9 and 5.9 but will that help on a $11,000 balance?? Whats the limit that members here would take for a BT rate???
I've never been offered 0, but Citibank gave me 2.9% for 9 months and State Farm just offered me 3.9% for 6 months. I would take advantage of any offer that was lower than what I am already paying assuming that either a) I was going to pay the entire balance by the end of the BT period or b) the go-to rate after the BT period expires is lower than the current rate I am paying the other company.
I take any bt rate that is lower than what I am currently paying (assuming no bt fees), as long as the offer is for at least 6 months. My debt is so high I know I won't have it paid before the end of the transfer, but I have a lot of accounts that always are offering a bt rate. Right now, I have 1 account at 0% till Feb, 1 account at 2.9 until April, 1 account at 3.7 till June, and one at 0% until July. I don't care as much about the goto rates, as I will not be paying that rate. However, all my goto rates are reasonable except a few. When I have all my debt paid, I will cancel some cards that do not have a decent goto rate. I consider a decent goto rate as a rate under 10%. I take the cheapest rates I can get, and all my credit card debt is under bts.
Other, just for my my sake.. would you disclose, the card names, post those balances, credit limts, how long have you had the accounts ect..
1. Citibank USA Hilton card 0% for first 6 months on purchases (ends in Feb.), limit 22k, balance almost 12k. (I bought many travelers checks through Chase Currency to go before they stopped the service). 2. Discover 2.9 until April, limit 14,500, balance is around 13k. 3. MBNA 3.7 until June, limit 20k, balance about 19,500. 4. fiance's AT&T account, 0% for first 9 months (ends in July), limit 8k, balance around 7200. I have also had offers of prime for life from BofA, limit 10,000, balance 0. 4.9 for 12 months from citi, limit 22,700, balance 0. I recently temporarily used Amex Blue's 5.9 till paid offer. I used it only because I could increase my credit limit. I did it for me and my fiance. Fiance was also offere 5.9 till paid on his citi card. i have a Chase account which sometimes has offers, but I can always transfer at my purchase apr of prime+1.4. I have a few other accounts too all at 0 balance.
Other.. Thanks, Your rates looked real good that's why I asked.. looks like you are in a little deeper than us.. but you and fiance probably make a bigger salarly as well. I am interested in your MBNA when did you get that offer.... and for how long.... We just paid off MBNA to a 0 balance on a 23,500 CL.. I am waiting to see if they offer anything soon. and thanks for sharing. Cherie
I wouldn't have even known about the offer except that I called and asked. There was a bt fee, but they waived it for me. I had them deposit the full amount into my checking account. The offer was 3.7 for 6 months. You might want to call them. In my experience, they don't seem to solicit me with bt offers. I've only got them when I called to ask. I have the quantum card by the way. I don't know if that makes any difference.
one other little note. My fiance lets me use his accounts for bts, but all the debt is mine. Mostly tuition and living expenses from when I was in school and could not get student loans.
