My dad opened up a small business in his name and we had an EIN # and I thought I was buying the business from him and I needed a computer. I called Dell and they did the application by phone and they approved the laptop under the business name. Since then the business closed and I never did buy it from my father. Life went on and needless to say the payments fell behind. Now my dad is getting collection letters sent to his personal address. My question ---- I want to make right by him and dell (it is not currently showing on either of our credit) but should I pay this or will it go on my credit once they have more info from me.

Your dad is the one who will be liable. Although, if the small business was incorporated, then he might not be personally liable for the debts of the corporation.
