Pulled my auto claims report this weekend, haven't had a claim in 10 yrs so I figured all was well...wrong.

DW called carrier few years back just to ask if something was covered on comprehensive. She just ASKED, never said she wanted to file a claim and never did.

The jerks issued a claim # and put it ON MY REPORT!! Said they would not remove it because DW
    "reported" it.....WTF?

My current agent says my score is taking a hit for the claim (which is tagged at $0) and it will be 5years from the date it was "reported" 'till it falls off.

How can these creeps run your score down by pulling something out of thin air? Csr said they do it all the time, to read my policy,it states they can do it.

    ARRGGGGGHHHHH!!!

    Check your reports.

Your insurance report is just like any other CRA and items can be disputed.

If they verify, and prove that they are costing you money you can sue them for the diffrence.

You can pull your own clue report at the equifax site. It should show claim amount $0.00 - and it should not be counted against you. Tell them you had a door ding and you thought it should be covered, but it wasn't.

If your company is counting this against you, get some quotes. All most companies want is an explanation, and door ding is a good explanatin.

Yes, every time anyone call claims to see if something is covered it goes on your clue report. So if you do call about something, don't give name or policy number, just stay anonymous say "if so and so happened, would it be covered?" and don't give out your info.

Re: Re: C.L.U.E. report poisoned by carrier

    Breeze thanks:
What if they have caller id? They usually give you the old "We cant' discuss ANYTHING with you unless you give us a policy #" routine when I contact them.
The coverage usually is policy specific...no?

My current agent tells me it does not matter if it is tagged @ $0.00, it is still a claim (I pulled EQ) and as such, is factored into my score. My carrier uses a score grid (1 thru 5) for pricing and there is no mechanism for "explaining" the cause for a claim.
Is she bs'ing me? She sounded pretty knowledgeable about scoring and they still have the best price in town.

How on earth can an insurance company ding your report just for asking about your policy?

Anyway I disputed with EQ after my first post, we will see what happens.

The insurance company csr's at least need to advise you that if you ask a question about your policy that it may adversely affect your score and might raise your rates.

I am complaining to my states attn'y gen'l manyana.

Now I'm curious. Is there a web page where I can pull my C.L.U.E. report? Is it free?

    Thanks.

The policies are standardized by state. Your company may do some things that other companies won't do, but it isn't a coverage issue, more like "extras." So you can look and see if you're carrying comprehensive, instead of calling and saying "do I have comprehensive coverage?" Then you can ask generic questions like "can you explain comprehensive? What does that cover?"

As far as the phone, use someone else's, call from a different place... Pretend you are shopping and want to ask detailed questions from the claims department before you decide.

No, this is not standard. Many many companies just want an explanation, and will not count it if your explanation makes sense. Some companies will count everything they can against you, some try to be reasonable. However, if their rate is still the lowest, there's not much you can do.

How on earth can an insurance company ding your report just for asking about your policy?

    Thanks that actually helped.

Sorry if I seemed dumb as a fence post. LOL. Before I asked, I actually had already gone to Equifax.com and was unable to locate C.L.U.E., which is why I asked. I was unaware that I had to log in first, as I pull daily from P.G. Now I see that it's available for $12.95.

Sounds like it's worth the price.

    Thanks all.
