I have a few charged off credit card accounts that are being reported by both the original creditor as well as the collection agency. Can they do that? They have different balances since the CA's add interest or fees or something onto them so it makes it look like two negative accounts rather than just one. If it's sent to collections shouldn't the original creditor at least report the balance as $0? Is there anything I can do about this? Also, in trying to settle them out, should I pay the original creditor or the CA? They are old but I have to have them shown on my EQ that the balances are $0 for this mortgage we're going to be applying for. Thanks for helping me out with my newbie questions. I'm learning a lot from this site :)

If an acct. has been charged off and sent/sold to a ca, the credit report should show "acct. sold or transferred - 0 balance". What I would do is dispute the original as a duplicate listing. Then send the validation letter to the ca.
